Fumigation for wooden packaging material (ISPM -15)

The Fumigation Certificate, in respect of international shipping of sea freight, also referred to as a 'pest control certificate' is the proof that wooden packing materials used in international sea freight shipping e.g. wooden pallets and crates, wooden boxes, have been fumigated or sterilized prior the international shipment.
We used to do Fumigation treatment to wooden cases in accordance with ISPM – 15 and issue Fumigation certificates in international shipping, which usually contain details such as purpose of treatment, the articles in question, temperature range used, chemicals and concentration used, etc.
ISPM 15 - International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No 15 is the standard adopted by more than 120 countries worldwide that regulate the use of solid wood packaging in international export use.

Heat treatment of wooden packaging material (ISPM -15)

Wooden packing to be exported overseas needs to be ISPM15 marked, which means that it is heat-treated. Each wooden case i.e. Wooden Box, Crates, pallets used for export must be marked according to ISPM15 requirements. If it appears that any wooden case in the supply does not have an approved stamp, the entire load risk being stopped at the border.

• IPPC is short for "International Plant Protection Convention"
• SE - is the country code
• F2166 - the code of the company who has approval for heat-treating and/or manufacturing wood packaging.
• HT - Heat treatment. Heat treatment to at least 56° C for 30 minutes in the core of the wood.

Available Testing Techniques

The effectiveness of our packaging design in protecting your product can be carried out in-house by our team of design engineers. Protecting your product during transit and handling can me established by a series of tests.
Drop - The drop test may be needed to establish how fragile the product is and what are inherent weak points. Typically a pack which can be carried by 1 man, is drop tested from a 1 meter drop height. A pack to be carried by a forklift truck may only be tested from a 20 – 30 cm height. The overall purpose of the testing is to establish the effectiveness of the cushioning in the pack.
Vibration – Vibration testing is often carried out to simulate vibration during various transit conditions, by road, air or sea. This technique is used to dampen the external vibrations and avoid product damage.
Shock - The Shock testing technique is usually carried out in order to simulate rough overland haulage. The resulting sound waves reflect the effectiveness of the cushioning within the pack in reducing excessive transmission of energy, thereby eliminating damage.
